Prior to Mr. Amir’s appointment to his current role as Managing Director, Tractors Malaysia on 1 May 2025, Mr. Amir was heading the Energy Services portfolio of Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd and Cat® Energy & Transportation for close to seven years combined.
In this current role, Mr. Amir is responsible for all operations in Malaysia and Brunei for Caterpillar business.
A versatile, high-energy and effective leader with substantial international exposure, Mr. Amir specialises in power generation system, rotating machinery and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) activities for oil and gas industry. He always thinks out of the box, loves challenges, and is known for his expertise in turning around companies, coaxing the balance sheets into greater profitability.
Mr. Amir was a scholar of Yayasan Sime Darby Scholarship (2005-2010), as well as Sime Darby Management Trainee Program (2011). He started off in Power Systems Division (PSD), Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd in 2011, managing sales for Oil & Gas, Industrial and Solar.
In December 2016, he joined Tractors Petroleum Services Sdn Bhd (TPS) to turn around the pipeline services business and Flexenergy gas turbine business before he was appointed to be the General Manager for TPS. He was responsible for the oil & gas business under Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd with scope of operations covering Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Brunei.
While managing the oil & gas business concurrently, Mr. Amir was seconded to Brisbane, Australia in September 2019 to advise Sime Darby Group on the current investment in Mine Energy Solutions Pty Ltd. In Nov 2020, he was appointed Head, Energy Services to manage the Energy Services portfolio covering TPS, Sime Darby Energy Solutions Sdn Bhd and Sime Darby Joy Industries Group of Companies. Under this portfolio, he focused on regional expansion to Asia Pacific with partners mainly from the U.S., and Europe.
Mr. Amir received his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (with First Class Honors) & Commerce from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
